never been more than a pretty face

The End Where I Begin || Mark & Kristen

mark-highfield:

Mark sighed and held Kristen tightly as he cried, not wanting to let go of her and face everything that was crashing down around him. He felt so weak in her arms, hating that Kristen had to see him like this. He was always supposed to be the leader. He knew that the moment he met Leon that it wasn’t going to just be them two forever. But he hadn’t expected this. He hadn’t expected it to be that hard. Mark didn’t want to be the weak one anymore. He didn’t want to be falling apart every single second. He wanted to be strong again. Like he had once been. But everything was hitting him and for the first time he didn’t know how to handle it all. He couldn’t sort out his feelings and it was killing him inside. He closed his eyes and sighed as he felt Kristen’s hands in his hair, her soft kisses helping to calm him down. He opened his eyes slowly as he watched her stand up and move towards Lily. Mark wiped a hand over his face, clearing away and left over tears.

He stood up next to her as she spoke to Lily, not able to help the small smile that spread across his face as Kristen introduced herself. He hadn’t thought he could fall more in love with her but in that moment he did. He wrapped his arms around her from behind, resting his chin on her shoulder as they looked at Lily. “She’s totally lying, I’m so the good-looking one,” he joked as he held Kristen tightly. He kissed Kristen’s cheek lightly as he looked at Lily and smiled. “You know little duck, this girl right here will be your sister-in-law one day.” He interlaced his finger with hers when he saw Kristen blush and shake her head. “It’s true he whispered. She’s pretty amazing too. And well I-” Mark’s sentence was cut short when they heard the sound of the door opening, both of them jumping and taking a step back from the bed as they turned to look at who was at the door. Mark’s eyes went wide and he could swear that he had stopped breathing as he took in the girl standing in front of them. “Scarlett..” he let out in a whisper as the girl walked in front of them and took a seat in the chair next to the bed.

It was good to feel Mark’s arms around her, it was good because he made it easier to be strong. Even though she was technichally strong for him she couldn’t deny that she was glad for the strong arms of her boyfriend as support. Of course she couldn’t help but blush as he mentioned again the thought of marrying her someday. She felt stupid that he actually made her blush with these comments and let her think of white dresses and all the cheesy wedding clichés. He made it harder to not believe in a brighter future and the possibility of marriage, children and everything Kristen had thought she would never want. To steady her opinion, she shook her head, still it made her feel better to know that Mark could at least joke a bit again. Even though he was so convincing that he was probably serious about all that stuff. As she could hear someone enter the room, Kris wasted the first thought on Ben since Mark had told her about Lily. But instead of her inivisble ex-boyfriend, it was Lily’s in some odd way other sister-in-law.

Scarlett Jennings was perfect. Not the some kind of perfect or only beautiful. No, she was the obvious perfect. The guys fell for her and the girls wanted to be like her. And the worst part about it was that she didn’t even knew it, she didn’t knew that she was that way and that was the factor that made her even perfect. Probably that was a description that overused the term perfect but as Kristen watched the girl crossing the room there was nothing else she could think. The blonde curls, the beautiful face and an amazing body, the girl had it all. She was the package everyone wanted. And she was Mark Highfield’s perfect match. Scarlett was Mark’s big love story in life, his first love and the girl he had to leave behind. The girl he would’ve never left by choice. He had never finished things. And there was nothing in the world Kristen was more sure about, that if they would ever turn visible again he would leave her and get back together with Scarlett. Because she had always been the one. And that left Kristen more scared than anything else.

Kristen’s eyes wandered from the girl that was sitting next to Lily now, to her boyfriend who was still staring at her with wide eyes. She wanted to do something but was not sure how to handle the situation. She couldn’t help the jealousy and how much it hurt to see him staring at Scarlett. The girl that was everything Kristen wanted to be and there was no way to supress the jealousy, rising in her stomach. Maybe she had been naive to believe that she could replace Scarlett and maybe it was not even her job to replace her. Maybe it would be unhealthy and hurt her in the end. But she had fallen in love with Mark, and now there was no way that she could go back, and she also didn’t want to. Kristen moved closer next to her boyfriend and wanted to get a grip on his hand, wanted to keep him close. But she couldn’t get the way he was looking at his ex-girlfriend out of her head, she couldn’t stop but wonder what was going on in his head. And if she was honest, she probably wouldn’t want to know. Kristen looked down and touched his hand slightly, let her fingers barely wander over his skin. She didn’t want to look at him again, didn’t want to know if he even reacted to her or if his eyes were still on the perfect blonde in front of them. Then she turned around and left the room. Kristen had promised to be the strong one and she wouldn’t let Scarlett Jennings turn her into a weak mess again. No, not that girl, Kristen thought while she shook her head and leaned against the wall next to the room. No, not that girl.
